Name of the Department: English

- Establishment- June 2010

- Brief History of the Department:
Department of English is one of the key departments in the college. Since its inception in June 2010, it is permanently on Non-Grant basis. Yet the department has substantive number of students at final year. The department has consistently maintained good academic performance in the University examination.

- Department at Glance:
The department has three full-time posts. It is headed by Prof. D. C. Tulshikatti who is assistant professor. Smt. T.S. Patil and Shri. V.P. Chaugale are working on C.H.B. basis. The department is well equipped with two computers, One LCD Projector, One Clever board and a printer. It has its own departmental library with all related text books and reference books. Similarly, it is our usual practice to screen syllabus related movies from time to time. The department successfully organized a two-day UGC funded National Conference entitled “Ideologies Reflected in Post 1980s Marathi, Hindi and English Novels” on 27th, 28th Feb 2017.

- Courses run By the Department
1) COC in Translation and Communication Skills The college has received an amount of Rs.6, 30,000 for ‘Career Oriented Course in Translation and Communication Skills’. The course was started in June 2012 and it had successfully completed its five year tenure in April 2017. Afterwards the course has been running through self funded policy. It is a six months duration course and the students of the said course can register their names with Rs. 550 only. Prof. D.C. Tulshikatti is working as the coordinator for this course. The prime objective of the course is to develop translation skills as well as communication skills in English, Marathi and Hindi. There are two papers namely, Translation Theory and Practice and Communication Skill. The third paper is that of Project writing. All these papers carry 100 marks each. Prof. D. C. Tulshikatti, Prof. Smt. T. S. Patil and Prof. V. P. Chaugale work as subject experts of the course.

2) Basic English Grammar
The course Basic English Grammar was started in June 2012. The said course is run in collaboration with Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It is a three months duration course and the students of the said course can register their names with Rs. 550 only. Prof. D.C. Tulshikatti is working as the coordinator for this course. The prime objective of the course is to have mastery in English language. 33 students have enrolled their names for the said course for the academic year 2018-19. Prof. T. S. Patil and Prof. V. P. Chaugale are the subject experts for the said course.

3) TCS Training Programme
In order to provide the job opportunities to needy and aspirant student, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha Satara has established MOU with Tata Consultancy Services. Under this scheme, the faculty members of the college Mr. V.S. Kamble and Smt. T.S. Patil attended the training for 5 days at S.G.M. College, Karad. After completion of the training, the trainers were assigned the task of conducting lectures for the students. The students were made familiar with interview skills as well as they were informed about the demands of the corporate sector. In the academic year 2016-17, 49 students from Arts faculty and 65 students from Commerce faculty attended the training in the college. 13 students appeared for an interview under this scheme. In
the academic year 2018-19, 46 students registered their names for the TCS programme. 6 students passed aptitude test that was held by TCS at Shiye and they appeared for the interview at Shivaji University, Kolhapur on 12th March 2019.

4) Bosch Bridge Programme
As per the MOU of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha Satara with BOSCH Bridge Programme Bangalore, Chandrabai Shantappa Shendure College, Hupari runs BOSCH Programme for the needy students. The main objective of this course is to find out drop-out
students of the nearby villages and to provide them skill based training. After the completion of the training, the trained students are sent to appear for campus interview that are held through BOSCH Bridge Company. The said course was commenced in the college on 15 Dec, 2017. The campus interview was held on 3rd April, 2018 at Sangli. 3 students out of 5 students were selected in the campus interview.
On behalf of the department of English, Mr V. P. Chaugale was sent to the Bangalore
under the scheme ‘Train the Trainer Programme’. The training session lasted for 5 days at bangalore and the said person is assigned the task of training the students who have enrolled their names for BOSCH Bridge Programme. During the 60 days of training sessions, students are made familiar with the demands of the corporate world. The second batch was successfully completed from 15 Jan, 2019 to 28 Feb. 2019. There were 17 students participated for the course.
