June Lockhart was an American actress who began her film career in the 1930s and 1940s in movies such as A Christmas Carol and Meet Me in St. Louis. She became a prominent figure primarily through her work in 1950s and 1960s television, as well as on stage and in film performances. Lockhart also played the role of Dr. Janet Craig in the CBS television sitcom Petticoat Junction (1968–70). She was a two-time Emmy Award nominee and a Tony Award recipient. With a career spanning nearly 90 years, Lockhart was one of the last surviving actors from Hollywood's Golden Era.

Lockhart attended the Westlake School for Girls in Beverly Hills, California.
Stage Career
Lockhart stepped onto the stage at the age of 8, performing the role of Mimsey in Peter Ibbetson, produced by the Metropolitan Opera. In 1947, her performance in For Love or Money brought her out from her parents' shadow and established her recognition as "a promising film actress in her own right." A newspaper article began, "June Lockhart has burst upon Broadway with the suddenness of an unexpected exclamation point."
Recognition
In 1948, Lockhart received a Special Tony Award for "Best Performance" for her role in For Love or Money on Broadway, through a "New Actress" category (which no longer exists). In 2008, Lockhart donated her Tony Award to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History for display in its permanent entertainment archives. In 1953, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress. In 2013, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) presented her with a Distinguished Public Service Medal for inspiring people about space exploration.
Personal Life and Death
In 1951, Lockhart married John F. Maloney. They had two daughters, Anne Kathleen and June Elisabeth. The couple divorced in 1959. That same year, she married architect John Lindsay, but they divorced in October 1970, after which she did not remarry. Lockhart, a Roman Catholic, along with her daughter Anne and actress Kaye Lenze, met Pope John Paul II in 1985.
Although a member of the youngest cohort of the Greatest Generation, Lockhart embraced rock music and listened to new rock bands. In an interview, she mentioned her Lost in Space co-star Bill Mumy and Angela Cartwright, saying she took them to the Whisky a Go Go nightclub in Hollywood "to meet the Allman Brothers Band." Appearing on The Virginia Graham Show in 1970 alongside art matron and LGBT cleric Troy Perry, Lockhart spoke with Graham about her morals concerning homosexuals.
On June 25, 2025, Lockhart turned 100 years old.
On October 23, 2025, Lockhart passed away at her home in Santa Monica, California.
